I've read descriptions of the Turing Machine many times, but I've never been able to understand what the big insight was and how this basic structure ends up calculating anything or creating a computer. Can anyone help? Peer pressure inspired me to work out my password issue and post this instead of emailing the Q list :)

Do I trade in my Shellac tickets for a Brockton Rox game?

After 7 years of free cable/interwebs, I must now pay for them. Ugh. Apparently my options are RCN, Comcast or Verizon. I have verizon phone (most basic package, just for my tivo 1.0, really), but am open to all options. Including further descent into cultural mud-hut/cave dwelling. Which is really tempting, actually.

Any suggestions?
