G53: Red Sox 6, Orioles 4
A fine afternoon at the First New England Church of Baseball.
I'm happy to report that the Red Hose are 2-0 at games I've attended. I'm even happier to report that both games were won by what has come to be called "walkoff" home runs.
Today's win courtesy David Ortiz's three run shot with two outs and a full count in the ninth. One of the runs being in the person of Mark Bellhorn. I felt a particular satisfaction with Bellhorn's hustle to beat the throw from third to get a single earlier in the ninth. The lady sitting behind me had been bad mouthing Bellhorn the whole game, e.g., "I'd like Francona to tell me why Bellhorn is still a Red Sox [sic]." She had just said "Strike him out and get it over with", when Bellhorn in fact fisted the ball to third and subsequently beat the throw.
Ortiz also had some hustle in the seventh to beat the 3-1 relay for a single. Alas, it was scored E1.
