Steven Brett Mark of Sky
We visited him today in Durham on our way back to London.
.
He's got a really nice life, and seems really happy. We walked around the fantastic cathedral there, saw the castle, wandered around the river, and lost a whole bunch of money trying to win the electronic pub quiz in his local.
.
He told us about his research-- he's using GPS and archaealogical research data to try and figure out migration patterns among peoples in the middle east.
.
Durham is a neat place-- full of small streets, cobblestones, and random historic items just hanging around everywhere without signs. Steve finds it funny to have to ask about 40 people to find out what one item is, such as the tower we saw in the woods near the river.
.
It had no sign, and (like I said) Steve had to ask about 40 people to find out what it was. It was one of the towers from the Cathedral that they were re-doing, and decided that instead of re-using the stones, they'd just stick the whole thing in the park, and there it is. But no one knows what it is. It's just a bunch of stones in an area that no one goes to because it's an area that has a bunch of crime-- muggings and rapes and things.
