Payton, get your head out of your ass

Don't complain about not playing everyday, and then have THE WORST AT BAT I'VE SEEN THIS SEASON! Bottom of the 8th, tie ballgame, runners on the corners, 1 out. So, Payton, you say to yourself, "Self, just get the ball in the air or strike out -- no ground balls." The first pitch is a strike, and you duck?!?! You laugh like it wasn't even close. The second pitch is a ball, which is what I would throw you, if I were a pitcher who just threw a strike that was ducked at. The third pitch is fastball for a strike, and you hit it right on the ground for the 6-4-3 double play, end of the inning. I don't know, maybe take the third pitch, even though it looked like a strike? Maybe bunt? Whatever, I'm just glad we won without you.

Is Payton up in this piece?

Yeah, that was a gay at bat... I still like him. Heard on D-n-C this morning that the Sox are talking with Kapler about bringing him back _this_year_ Kapler is not as good of a player as Payton, but he likes being a 4th outfielder, which is important, and the circumcision, that's cool, too.

Ha! Now I remember my dream! I was trying to persuade Jason Breslau, Mike Greenberg and Ned Greene that the greatest Jewish baseball player was on the 1908 Cubbies. This is good.

I didn't know Jason Marquis was in my tribe, I like him. Annually one of the best hitting pitchers. I like pitchers who can hit. When there aren't a lot of at bats involved, (like with pitchers) I like to look at total bases.

Could we have the answer hiding before us? Make Jay Payton happy by making him our every day left fielder; Get Gabe back from Japan to be our fourth outfielder; relieve Embree of the burden of his failed and useless life; and _trade_ Manny for some bullpen help.

John Tomase is more than welcome to embark on a career as a major league ballplayer. I won't begrudge him for his salary if and when he makes it to "The Show". If Manny is indeed sandbagging, then, that's not right. If it's effecting the way the rest of the team plays, then, I'd expect the front office to do something about it. They traded Nomar, they can trade Manny.

We tried this before. If any team wants Manny, they just need to pick up his contract. No one bites...

If they really wanted to move him, they'd pay cash as well.

Bad business move...

Totally. Payin' to downgrade defeats the purpose.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2005-06-21 17:44:03 +0000
No. If Manny's presence is not merely hyperexpensive, but costly in other adverse effects, it would be worthwhile to pay to remove him. I do not appreciate his attitude very much, and would love to see a happy Jay Payton, who has a legitimate beef, and is being pretty cool about it anyway. Nevertheless, if Manny is bringing down the clubhouse, I think we should lose him. I only worry about how trading him may upset Ortiz, whom we should avoid no cost to keep happy.

Is Manny bringing down the clubhouse?

Maybe.

I've been noticing the clubhouse just isn't as — clubby — as it once was. Anyone else?
