I agree with the author's sentiments concerning political interference in Public Broadcasting and the public founding it receives.
However, PBS and NPR are not commercial free. True, I watched nearly two hours last night without a commercial, but they really hit you with those underwriting messages. Public Broadcasting could use _more_ funding.
The main problem is that the FCC does not charge enough for broadcast licenses. The electromagnetic spectrum is a public resource. It wasn't created such that CBS, NBC, ABC, et al. could reap massive profits by irradiating the public with radio waves.
License fees are minimal compared to the operating budgets of these corporations.
