Does anyone who likes Minor Threat buy Nikes? Seem like the polar opposite of the Dischord aesthetic to me.

we can add Ian Mackaye to a list including Willaim S Burroughs, John Lennon, John Zorn (and I could be mistaken, but I think) Iggy Pop....

Don't forget Rippopotamos.
They had that "My Nike Air" song.

forgot Spike Lee, Michael Jordan....
If Cadillac uses Led Zeppelin and Carnival uses Iggy Pop... I think the music our demographic spent our adolesence listening to will be featured more and more prominently. Ho hum.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The The in that Dockers commercial, most recently.
Remember that car commercial a few years ago featuring How Soon Is Now? It made me want to die even more than the song did on its own...

Here's an amusing article about it.

Weiden and Kennedy was the firm responsible for Nike's WS Burroughs ad, the Spike Lee / Jordan spots, the Nike (and Sega!) commercials featuring audio ear candy of Zorn / Yamatsuka EyE of the Boredoms aka Naked City.
I know no one cares about Zorn lore, but hey, fuck you, this is my post:
W + K commision Zorn to do music for a large amount of their ads. It's a relationship where Zorn submits whatever he wants AND has final say.
Its actually a pretty fascinating medium to work in (Commercials)
Film Makers Spike Lee and David Lynch do them all the time. I think, aside from the $$$$ and the sell-out implications, that some artists like the bite - size format of a commercial.
Just my .02
This post really doesnt have much to do with the Minor Threat theft BTW.

The first time someone paid $4 to see Minor Threat, Ian McKaye sold out.
As we've seen, commercials are a medium of artistic expression.
Either any transaction involving -quote- art -unquote- compromises the artist or none do.
I'll take rladew's 2 cents since y'all know I'm a sellout.

For whatever it's worth, Dischord is fucking pissed about the whole thing.

Well, yeah, unauthorized use of an image is a different story.
Was that artwork copyrighted?
It's what, twenty years old? Fair use cuts both ways, huh?

Copyright infringement = your best entertainment value.

Someone started an interweb thread about other evil corporations stealing album covers, and what they would look like. The Defective Yeti made this one:
