7/29 to 8/1 : Jim Henson is my idol Who's down? In addition, on 8/2 the song remains the same--who's holding? And tonight, el mariachi/desperado double feature. Robby Rodrigues makes my day--I guess it's popcorn for dinner for me.

Dark Crystal, yes! Labyrinth, NO! Actually, I've never seen Labyrinth. Maybe I'm confusing it with Willow. Which one is Bowie in?

Labyrnith has Bowie. Tempting as a 45-minute Jimmy Page guitar solo is, I;m workin' on 8/2.

El Mariachi is the king of Indy films, and its legend grows. The budget was so small, that Rodrigues couldn't afford a sound guy nor equipment (he thought about doing a silent picture with just music), so he used an old VHS camcorder he found to record the sound. Now, that may not seem like a big deal, but it is truely impossible to sync the sound from a 16mm Arriflex-B camera to VHS video. Watch El Mariachi again, and notice that no dialogue shot lasts more than four or five seconds, and then ones that hit the three or four second mark, are almost comical. Fun, independent, and humbling stuff...
