Just to play Devil's advocate:
If lookout agreed to pay Green Day royalties for a work that Green Day created and Lookout were not doing so as was previously agreed, I would argue that Green Day would have a legitimite grievance.
Lookout gave Green Day their first exposure. Maybe if they cant pay whats agreed upon , the 2 parties could work something else out so GD could maintain a respectful relationship w/ L/O. But If L/O just isnt paying G/D with no regard to their agreement and no other communication or plan, who's the bastard?

I love, BTW, how its Green Day's fault, for the "unemmployment" of 6 Lookout reps. Like its GD's obligation to unconditionally put food in their mouths...

Green Day was the last active big band to stay on the label- everyone else jumped ship, probably for a reason.

I, think, too that a lot of the comments posted on that website were probably these same "nonconformist" people bellowing "Sellout" @ GD the moment the bands' name first saw print in Maximum Rock and Roll...

Do you know, frame, (or anyone else for that matter)
The deal(s) with:
1. Dead Kennedys and Alternative Tentacles
2. Butthole Surfers and Touch and Go
The only well publicized band/label split I followed in detail was the Negativland/SST fracas...

thanks for the excellent read BQ!
Who Knows, it could shed a lot of light on the current GD / Lookout situation as well...
T& G paying 50% of the royalties to the band... Wow!

I've read this before, I think. Some great quotes:
Coffey: "We can't rely on Shellac or the Jesus Lizard to pay our bills.""
Haynes: "This isn't art. If it were art, I'd feel uncomfortable selling it."
MacKaye: "If you have an oral contract, lawyers don't get paid. It's kind of perfect that a court would be offended by that.""
MacKaye: "If you go for a walk in the park, and it's a beautiful sunny day but four guys jump out of a bush and beat you to the ground and take your money, that doesn't mean you shouldn't go in the park. It means you got robbed.
