Chuch D interview in The Progressive

"The first thing I would like to say is that to be truly American and represent American ideals you need to consider yourself a citizen of the world. American policy has gone contrary to that ideal. The Bush Administration is bent on making the world submit to Americanism instead of becoming a member of the world community... When culture is created in boardrooms with a panel of six or seven strategists for the masses to follow, to me that is no different than an aristocracy." The whole interview is killer. So much to be admired. Has anyone heard his show on Air America?

Chuck d is very intelligent and turned me on at a young(er) age to many political things I wasnt aware of. Reading about Huey Newton, H Rap Brown and the like when Snap's 'I Got The Power' dominated the airwaves. I will always respect Mistachuck for that. However, strictly reading from a musical and pop culture perspective, I had a hard time finding any connection of a conspiracy to use hip hop music and culture as a tool to make people either support the actions of our govt (as Chuck D suggested) or rebel (or at least ask questions of) against our govt. I think I have Air America on Sirius (I seldom switch from the Kid Channel, the Outlaw Country, the indie 'left of center' channel, old school hip hop, classic jazz or the New Wave channels). I'll have to take a deep breath and check it out someday. did anyone see the recent release of Public Enemy live @ the Hammersmith Odeon from 1987??(its the one they sample the bejesus out of on 'It takes a Nation...') _______________________________

Oh yeah, I forgot to post the link -- Interview I'm in a P.E. phase. Mostly "Bum Rush the Show" and "Apocolypse '91" 'cause I don't hear them as much. Lots of valid politics. Re-reading it makes me realize how grounded Chuck D is, but still optimistic. I like the part when Chuck D equates: punk is to disco, as rap is to R&B. I'm not sure it's accurate, but both punk and rap were a "Fuck all y'all" to the pop music underpining. I must find a way to listen to his show on Air America.
