Jandek: an update.

My man did not respond to the last yes/no question I asked him: whether he likes football or not. Regardless, I got five more CD's in the mail today: On The Way, Chair Beside A Window, The Living End, Foiregn Keys and Telegraph Melts.

Thus far: THE LIVING END. Very much in the same vein as 'You Walk Alone-' there's someone who actually knows how to play bangin' out blues progressions (is it the man himself?) while someone else solos over 'em with all sorts of treble. Female vocalist is found on some of the songs- speculated that it's Nancy, which ruins the earlier speculation that he broke up with Nancy and then wrote 'Blue Corpse' about it (three albums earlier.) TELEGRAPH MELTS. Full-on Nancy, with a lot of tribal drumming that reminds me of Mo Tucker. Reverb. Shouting and chanting. Whoooo. Not anywhere as agonizing as 'The Humilty Of Pain' but probably right up there in terms of my favorites. CHAIR BESIDE A WINDOW. My man names the album after stuff in his living room and then puts a grainy b&w profile of himself on the cover. Early stuff, which, from what I have read, is all kinda similar stylistically to this- single picked notes, moaning/yowling vocals. Nancy's first appearance. Right on! Haven't gotten into 'Foreign Keys' or 'On The Way' yet.

I know it has nothing to do with Jandek, but I gots me the new Preston School of Industry cee-dee, and boy oh boy do I [i:66129f41aa]really[/i:66129f41aa] miss Pavement right about now.

"Love the Pavement. They're my favorite."

"On The Way" is pretty awesome- lots of traditional blues scales and harmonica mixed in with good howled vocals and light Mo Tucker-ish drumming.
