No candy for you!

I think we got upwards of fifty kids last night. I was tempted to refuse candy to a couple of teenagers who showed up in jeans and sweatshirts. Very popular this year: Spiderman. Princess had a typical strong showing. My faux pas: "Oh! Spiderman with a cape!" The poor kid's zipper in the back had broken, explained his sister. We decided not to offer them celery. Best costume: the homemade Peter from "Peter and the Wolf". Our apartment was out in force, the first and third floor neighbors (mostly in costume), sitting in the doorway or on the stoop, wine and/or gin in hand. The next door neighbor, brother of the landlord, popped out during commercial breaks for the Pats game. (Scariest part of the evening?) I've always felt Lara & I were sort of interlocutors in the neighborhood. The force of gentrification, breaking up the community. I realized that can't be quite right, since the longer term residents don't actually know one another. Case in point: The mother a couple doors up exclaimed to her companion as her children got candy from G.B., "We went to high school with him!". Her companion didn't recognize him. "The Monster Mash" played incessantly from across the street. We countered with Thriller and Off The Wall. Twenty-year-old albums! Luckily the downstairs neighbors were prepared for the kids and had a copious amount of candy, of which, I had my fair share. Another bonus: no smashed pumpkins this morning!

Judging from the Jandek list, lotsa people (including us) got the shaft. I was thinking about some more "Jandeklike" images (ok no beard on Bowie.... dang) in "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (Which just got a new sparkling Criterion DVD which I cant wait to check out sometime!) Wait a minute - did you two not get tickets? Are you serious? That is really unfair. How were the ticket sales administered?

I got online at 5:00, refreshed until 5:15, when they went on sale, and by the time I plugged in all the info, the show was sold out.

That's OK. The Grays @ North Shore Spirit is like the Jandek of independent league baseball.

That really sucks ass. I feel for you! (Chaka Khan implications notwithstanding)

frame609:: Did you see on the 'dek list that Merzbow is playing the very same night in NYC @ the Knitting Factory? That might also be doable... you'd never have to do anything ever again to prove yr sonic bravery (some might say stupidity or insanity, but its all good...) _______________________________

'Glasgow Sunday' and 'Raining Down Diamonds' arrived today. Our boy was really chatty in his note: 'Glasgow sunday DVD forthcoming No real impetus, just response New Orleans should be interesting' No mention of me once again asking him to play Boston. Ah well. 'RDD' is bass and vocals- bass is way low in the mix.

I got back to Boston last night. I was supposed to stay with my friend Emily- she just called to let me know that she's safe at her folks' place in Arkansas. A bunch of my friends in the Lake Effect (including Shelly) have freiends and family down there in the gulf- it's a tough time for everyone.
