Records and 8-Tracks

PChippy and I are looking to buy something that will allow us to make records and 8-tracks into .mp3s. Yoav suggested that we get an analog to digital converter and feed the sound through our computer. . Any suggestions? Equipment, prices? . PS-- don't worry, we won't throw out the vinyl. PPS-- don't worry, we know all about copyright law.

I think that there's some kind of portable MP3 player that allows direct analog-to-digital recording.....iRiver, mebbe? I've been shopping for an MP3 player and may go for a Zen Extra, FWIW.

3rd times a charm: not exactly what you guys had in mind, but saw an ad for it in the latest Jazztimes mag (Wes Montgomero on the front BTW) the tried and true Cnet rarely steers me in the wrong direction on a/v types of stuff I wonder about.... (Is this a new condition? Rideside Tourettes?) now I feel much better. _______________________________
