If you like Deerhoof, you'll like...

I got an office with my new job. It's small, it's in the sub-basement, it doesn't have any windows, and it's ridiculously over-air conditioned, making it regularly about 40 degrees in here at all times. Sometimes I feel like an earthworm, as I spend half my life underground, coming up for sips of air every once in a while. When I emerge, I'm always surprised by changes in the weather. Despite all this, I love the damn thing, because i can close the door and listen to music all day as I rummage through paper. Yes, I rummage through paper for my job. But because I listen to my own music 8 hours a day, I've grown tired of just about every single album I've got. Chippy and I bought a analog to digital converter yesterday, which will soon overwhelm me with big band, jazz, 80s, and shmalz-core, but I'm also looking to listen to new music as well. Any suggestions?

I can think of a few.

Best two CDs of the year, in my humble ears, so far: * Various Artists "Run the Road" (Vice) * Sufjan Stevens "Sufjan Stevens Invites You to Come On, Feel the Illinoise" (Asthmatic Kitty) Runners up (flawed for various reasons, but worth a listen): * The Books "Lost and Safe" (Tomlab) * Kano "Home Sweet Home" (679) * M.I.A. "Arular" (XL) * Hopewell "Hopewell and the Birds of Apetite" (Tee Pee) These aren't from this year, but, been enjoying nonetheless: * De La Soul "De La Soul is Dead" (Def Jam) * The Last Poets "The Last Poets" (Fuel) * Stu Walker "Stu Walker" (Odd Halo)

I will never hear the words "motherfucker" in quite the same way after hearing the Last Poets on the back porch of H3W. _______________________________

Recently it's been the new Death Cab For Cutie record, Sleater-Kinney's "The Woods" (what up, Ned!), Lucero's "That Much Further West" (saw 'em last night), PJ Harvey, and the A-Frames' "Black Forest."

I got a new Neil Sedaka album at the Goodwill yesterday, along with a stack of other "rockin'" classics. As soon as I get the needle on my player replaced/fixed I'm gonna dance to the oldies.

1. download a bit torrent client from www.sourceforge.net 2. go to www.isohunt.com 3. destroy the record industry as we know it i would recommend: super furry animals elbow kaiser chiefs super furry animals again (the welsh language albums this time) dolly parton's bluegrass album the jonny cash / american recordings box set for the french hip hop and reggae fans: mc solaar i am zebda massilia sound system then you could move on to west africa & high life - baba maal, n'dour etc and for some polish folk punk - the warsaw village band songs in english are boring...

it works by swarming (like bees only without the funky butt shaking and honey) therefore the more people who are downloading the quicker you get it - thats why it might take 15 mins to download a nirvana album but 2 weeks to download something obscure for a better explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bittorrent

plus a dvd is probably something like 5 gigabytes - thats a big chunk of download
