Just plain "fascism" will do.

The brutal truth: "Perhaps it is unfair to characterise the Bush Presidency in these terms, because it would imply the existence of a coherent governing philosophy. "

when in doubt or disagreement: yr opponent = Hitler

You are welcome to do so, rladew, but I wouldn't suggest it, especially when the opponent has no similarites to Hitler.
However, for all the similarities the Bush Admin. does have to Hitler-style fascism, the article points out, he maybe closer to Mussolini.
I liked "Point 11: Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked." So true...
Maybe we all should read "The Fourteen Defining Characteristics of Fascism" by Dr. Lawrence Britt (Spring 2003, Free Inquiry)
Or we might have to start carrying ID cards around...

I actually agree with Bush that a catastrophe of Katrina's magnitude requires a coordinated federal response. Auerback seems to be a classic little g government conservative, I'd guess we'll be hearing more from them over the next three years now that there is no re-election to worry about.

Bush = Hitler
Dr. Laurence Britt = Hitler
Auerback = Hitler
Rita = Hitler
Tampa Bay = Hitler
MFY = Hitler
New Season of Reality TV = Hitler

any evidence supporting point 11?
Seems kind of far fetched that professors in academia (traditionally left of left) would be censored.

Well, our President routinely displays hostility to academia. He weaseled through college/s drinking, and he doesn't read the newspapers or academic journals for that matter.
During Bush's first 5 years in office, he didn't believe all the scientists, experts, and professors that there is global warming. He will look at hard evidence given to him by the CIA, FBI, and EPA agents and say, openly, that he is going with "his gut" regardless.
His "energy task force" headed by Dick Cheney did not include a single scientist or expert in geoeconomics, the environment, or world climate, not even members of his EPA (which he appointed). When the media noted the peculiar censoring of environmental academics and scientists in the task force, Bush and Cheney played the "paranoia" card. (Results were tragic: Enron and Calif.) He openly promoted his hostility with smirks and sneers, and promoted it further with rampant cronyism that has been on display the past 3 years.
As for the arts, right now "Public Corruption" is number 4 on the FBI priority list. Not child porn, mind you, just general obcenity, sexual pictures and Mapplethorpe. A fairly open attack for the FBI.
I am not positive of any professors being arrested, but there may have been a few at the Union Square peace rally in NYC last week. One should keep an eye on the village voice for updates.
Finally I would like to disagree with you that professors are traditionally left of left. I went to a liberal arts college in Vermont and did not find this to be the case.
So there you have solid evidence of fascism, and that's just point 11. The earlier and more crucial points were even more damning.

Rladew, you are not making sense. The charges of fascism in the Bush Admin. are careful and reasoned. It is not just a slam.

There's been at least one Muslim professor arrested for National Security reasons.

He was released after two weeks of detention, never charged. Since then, he's been trying to get his name cleared (a letter from the FBI?) but to no avail.
