anyone up for a road trip to see 'on the road'?
in Iowa.
They are also having a fanzine exhibit at the same time.

When are we leaving on the raod trip, G?
I think Honor's in, and has invited some friends from New York. This is becoming less road trip and more pilgrimage...
Iowa City, round trip from Boston? Yeah. We could do it in a weekend.
I'll be in Iowa over Labor Day weekend, I was hoping to see the scroll. However, it seems it won't be on display yet. My dharma practive tells me I should let go of this anguish about missing the scroll. Kerouac would approve?
Rebecca is going to tape the thing for a radio documentary she'll make on it.
Alright!
We'll need CB's.
FYI-- There's a pretty good brewpub also in Lovell that we went to before seeing the Pixies at Agannis. Anyone remember the name?
Seriously, though - I'd love to meet up for a beer or three if you'd have the time/inclination. And you're naturally welcome to come to Amsterdam if you want to sample our... fine culture.
The browse on the 2nd floor of Thorne's shopping area yielded <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Road-Original-Scroll-Jack-Kerouac/dp/067006355X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-2329066-8235166?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188178798&sr=8-1">the following</a>:

I haven't read it in so long, I just may have to bite...

Next time I visit the sprouts in Berlin, I'll make an overnight (or 2!) stopover in your fair city, I promise. But this trip is logistically challenging as it is.
I'm attending (and reading a paper!) at a Women's History conference in Winchester, UK. Chippy's coming with me. After the three day conference we'll spend 2 nights in a thatched-roof cottage next to "the shop" in a village outside the city, celebrating our 1 year anniversary.
From there, Chippy flies home, and I continue on to Vienna (via London), where I'll meet up with my parents and some random friend of my dad's. We'll do a bicycle trip for about 7 days, wandering the countryside in preparation for a trip he will lead for the Appalachian Mountain Club (this is his retirement 'job'). We'll then meet up with my sister and the sprouts for a couple of days in Prague. I'll fly back to London, spend one night with a friend, and then back to the states.
I went to the 'land of Pam' for a couple of overnights when I was 19, but didn't do much more than visit a couple of museums and get run over by a bicyclist. (I was on the poverty trip-- I think we had a Heinicken or two at a bar, but that was a big splurge!) I would love to go back, and plan to, soon!
It will be fantastic hosting you, but I know transAtlantic flights don't come that often. At least your employers are (hopefully) paying for your flights to & from the conference. I'll be back Stateside sometime late winter or early spring, so maybe I'll see you on your side of the ocean next time around as well.
Actually, re-reading your post... a 7-day bike trip? Hell yeah, I envy you!
My sister and her family have flown through Amsterdam to/from Berlin, but even if that doesn't work, I'll just take an ezjet (or whatever) jaunt to visit you next time.
September 29, 30 Oct 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th.
After the 14th (with apologies to Kerouac as well as Willie Nelson), the scroll will be 'on the road again'.
Have fun in Urp, G!
