"I'm only surpised to hear he hadn't taken a shot sooner."

This is a pretty big flip-flop.

Great, as if another 3+ years of incompetence wasn't enough, it'll be another 3+ years of drunken incompetence. Why hasn't the mainstream media picked up on this?

The American psyche is too fragile. We can't handle it. Just like we can't handle waiting for a proper vote recount. I wonder - if Cheney wanted to be president (though I don't think he does), could he drum this up in the media, and be like, Hey, we have a drunkard for a president. He's incapacitated, can't handle his duties. I'm takin' over!

Maybe we will see it in the mainstream media soon enough, though. I'm not sure if they're as invested in protecting the image of Shrub as much as they used to be.

"He's incapacitated" How would we judge this, based on past performance?

Bull Moose blogs and NYT as sources seem to be a lot less repectable than the National Enquirer. Inquiring minds want to know about cottage cheese thighs, Ariana Jolee, and Tom Cruise... nice. _______________________________

probably because its more speculation / rumor than news. _______________________________

National Enquirer had the scoop on Gary Hart and Bill Clinton's affairs. Also the Clinton pardon of Marc Rich. They're not the Weekly World News.

"not the Weekly World News": a new badge of journalistic integrity _______________________________

While the Enquirer is not the worst news source, I would still put it below the vast majority. I like the quotation marks inserted almost at random...

Huh?

Posted by dawnbixtler on 2005-09-22 16:56:43 +0000
I might take the Jim Beam over a Laura Bush. Certainly Makers Mark...

i'm questioning their integrity as a source of hard news. _______________________________

There are a number of anonymous quotes in that article. I believe the Enquirer.

The NYT and Bullmouse? Any evidence?

Posted by rladew on 2005-09-22 18:20:24 +0000
Laura Bush over THK any day of the week. (I guess I would still get drunk a lot if THK still thinks gin soaked raisns is the way to go, but still) _______________________________

No question of NYT or Bullmoose. I am solely talking about Enquirer. I meant that most RSN posts do a good job of posting credible sources when making a political argument one way or the other. ('Bush is a jerk' because it says so on pg. 5 of the NYT by such and such esteemed columnist) It is surprising to me that the enquirer is used as a credible source of information. I don't personaloly agree that it is. (as opposed to 'Bush is a Jerk' sandwiched next to which Hollywood celeb is blowing which other Hollywood celeb, what the outlook of the new reality tv season is like, and why our politicians should trust their hairstylists more) _______________________________

Exactly, tgl.

Bush falling off the wagon isn't a political statement, is it? Calling him an incompetent hack, well, yeah, that is.

Posted by tgl on 2005-09-22 19:44:06 +0000
Wait, the article isn't about Bush being a jerk. If it is true he (someone with an admitted alcohol problem) is back on the juice, well, I feel a bit of sympathy for him. Being POTUS is not good for one's health.

I thought Cheney's been running things from the beginning.

Posted by Miriam on 2005-09-22 19:53:05 +0000
I think he should call his sponsor.

Whether the story is true or not is irrelevant at this point. I heard Leno repeat the story last night, so it appears the rumors are another thing our little warm fuzzy "hitler" has to deal with... _______________________________
