Even if you don't like showtunes...
...I daresay that you might enjoy this documentary. If you like showtunes, then you'll proabbaly love it! It's D.A. Pennebaker's filming of the original cast recording of the Sondheim musical Company, and it's really really excellent. I saw it last night and didn't fall asleep, which really says something about the film. It's a strangely riveting production, especially the segment with Elaine Stritch recording "Ladies Who Lunch." Seeing a glimpse of the different personalities and behind the scenes recording production 70's style is way fun. As a bonus you get to see Barbara "Double Trouble" Barrie as well as Charles "Murphy Brown" Kimbrough in more youthful days. If you don't have Netflix, it's available at the BPL (though at the moment that copy's at my apartment).
Anyone watch Family Guy?
A while ago Stewie (or was it Peter?) dropped a pretty harsh barb regarding a famous Sondheim "competitor" / "peer":
"You're the worst thing to happen to musical theater since Andrew Lloyd Webber"
