Actually fairly cool place. It is a private club, and costs a yearly membership, or you can get invited by friends and pay between 5 to 20 bucks. I saw a few decent DJ's there in '99 and '00. It's fairly gay, as it is almost in the South End, but it's like 50/50, and I kinda like it that way.
A pint of water is $5 (they don't sell booze) and there are signs everywhere that "Rise is a drug-free establishment," but most don't heed that.
Note the Sunday resident DJ, Richie Ladue, who for a while in '99 I actually thought was our very own rladew.

Dig that jazz. I went to a jazz fest in the south end the other day. I'm not gay or nothing but it was pretty good. Lots of barbecued ribs and fried chicken never hurts either. I guess I'll go to Rise if I'm already completely wasted.
