my check and envelope left Rhode Island this morning. Since it is a check (give an extra week or so for clearing purposes) and not a money order, I'm guessing I wont have it until Nov 28th (Monday) or so...

Mine came today. I wrote a chatty letter (as I alwasy do) talking about how I was at the Austin show, his use of Muslim imagery, and the Astros. I asked if there would be videos of the shows, and whether he had converted to Islam. I also re-issued my request for the man to play Boston. I got this response:

'Videos we hope
Photos nothing to do with pilgrimage
or tourism'

Listened to it on the way to work this morning. Very percusive guitar (even more so than usual to my ears). Severely lonely... (see/hear 'I Shot Myself' for example)

'I shot Myself' may become my new 'getting ready and commuting in the morning' anthem. developing...

So the guitar on 'Khartoum' sounds a lot like the other recent albums, except more in tune and less distorto, vocals sharp, unslurred.

I listened to Khartoum while doing dishes last night.

I'm not entirely covinced that everything Jandek plays is improvised. Some of it sounds composed. The more I hear his guitar, the less it sounds like a little kid strumming with no rhyme or reason.

Hearing 'I Shot Myself' while scraping off caked on grease is quite an experience.

(Headphones were used BTW - otherwise Im pretty sure Jackie and I would be getting divorced right now)
