No, you've got it wrong. I've basically responded <a href="/20051212/badminton_et_al/world_cup_06#comment-15652">here</a>.
If we're talking about lexicographic discussion then nigger, faggot, et al. would be fine. If they're used in the context of "you're wrong becuase you're a _________" than that is outside the realms of polite discourse; and I see it as perpetuating hateful stereotypes.

Now, an interesting discussion would be if "eat a dick up" is hateful in a homophobic way. I'd tend to think not, and if you disagree, you can eat my cunt. ;)

If you have to post these as cursory caveats to general public folks who read the board cuz its public internet, I agree w/ you in full TGL.
But if people (most of the population of RSN) who have known me for at least a couple of years actually think I am calling people names to display pure hatred, than I am sadly disappointed.
I offer apologies to those who think my posts were either derogatory or (worse) hateful with no excuses.
whats interesting to me Is I started my comment in the sports thread no different from the response uttered by tend and dawnb.
I got a little ticked when I was told to 'eat a dick' so quickly as I thought it was fairly clear I was speaking in jest (however bizquig has and always will be a 100% bullshit free straightshooter who speaks his mind), so I was willing to take it with a grain of salt, and I attempted to use humor, not hate in my response.

I didn't think you were spewing pure hatred. I do think that calling someone a "faggot", even in jest, is not inclusive language. I see now that I should feel the same way about "_____ is gay". Thanks for being the impetus that got me around that corner.

Jesus H. Christ, next thing you know, someone's gonna say that using "pussy" as a derogatory term is anti-feminist rhetoric.

I was going to say that I felt as if (and my apologies in advance to Frame) It was my first week @ UNH and we had one of those annoying "check-in" meetings.
Like I wanted to be spending my non- class work time on mandatory sensitivity training. yikes.

Fournier...? Is that you?

There are very few words I won't use and balk at other people using.
Context is an important factor. Amongst male friends, calling each other "gay" is par for the course - a mild power play. In mixed company, calling a man "queer" is an intimidation tactic.
Here endeth the sermon. Pass the dutchy, yo.

(Identities have always been revealed once those identities have been know, I believe).
Wait. don't tell me. you're empowered by using the words because you "own" them.
"Personal foul! Number 42, 'roughing the poster' -- 15 yards -- automatic first down."
Hochuli? I'll fight him.
