My favorite songs, today

Instead of figuring out why I don't like some music, I've decided to try to figure out why I LIKE some kinds of music. My favorite songs of today are: Desaparechre'-- Deerhoof (Milk Man) The Other Side-- The Dismemberment Plan (Change) Amazon-- M.I.A. (Arular) Bebot-- Black Eyed Peas (Monkey Business)

Is that the MIA song thats like "ive got the bombs to make you bang Ive got the beats to go bang bang bang" that was a good tune... cant remember the title or the exact lyrics though...

Posted by G lib on 2005-12-15 16:40:14 +0000
Nah, that's "Pull Up the People". This one has some kind of jungle bird sounds and weird bell, wooden xylophone and Deep Forest-esque samples overlapping her brand of hip-hop beats. The lyrics aren't as important as the beats, but they start: "I was sipping on a Rubicon Thinking 'bout where I come Its all this for revolution cuttin' up the coupon Savin for a telephone Can I call home Please Can I go Home Plese Can I go Home"

Posted by tgl on 2005-12-15 16:45:34 +0000
This touches on what "I like about music" for me: I don't pay much attention to the lyrics nor care if I can't recognize them. Otherwise I might be embarassed to actually listen to half of my collection. *cough* Jesus Lizard *cough* Butthole Surfers *cough* Neurosis *cough* Oh, who am I kidding, the Gibby Haynes line "I saw an X-ray of a girl passing gas" is a powerful and moving lyric. Nevermind.

I think Mazda or some such org. has already hijacked (ok I guess the correct word is more like paid or commisioned, but 'hijacked' sounds cooler) MIA music for its commercials... bound to happen. Lady Soverign and Pepsi in 2007? CHA CHING

Can I link this to the Phish thread? Phish has dumb songs about nothing that you can sing along with without worrying about what you're singing about... awesome. I like my tunes vapid or, better yet, in another language (read: Pizzicato 5, Stereolab, Polysics (OK, I only _sorta_ like the Polysics, great show though))

Posted by mr. mister on 2005-12-15 21:30:29 +0000

Posted by Null Protocol on 2005-12-15 21:35:19 +0000
