New Dillinger Escape Plan / Neurosis

NU Metal perpretrators beware: There might actually be hope for "heavy" music afterall. Despite Jackie's (and hell who knows yet maybe Maddie Nigs) protests my hears have been glued / ripped apart to these two albums as of late. The metal dude @ WUNH thinks the new DEP sounds too NIN. I told him to get fucked. Thanks Rollins!

Just saw a great documentary on John Dillinger. It's in rotation on PBS right now.

I got the re-issue of the Neurosis demo (the one before "Pain of Mind"). Don't like it as much as the later stuff. A bit to thrash.

what did you think of the new Neurosis? as far as the old one: Thrash in what sense? anthrax "Among the Living"thrash or DRI "Four Of a Kind" thrash??? Jesus! There is a new [b:7c9e084995]ISIS[/b:7c9e084995] [/color:7c9e084995][/size:7c9e084995]album coming out by the end of the year too! I just read a pretty good article in Vanity Fair about J.D. That guys nuts.

I have been having a really hard time listening to loud metalish guitar rawk lately. It's not like, I'm old and it's to loud. More like I hear it and feel like the morning after I smoked a shit ton of weed. Just burnt out.

Is the JD article anywhere online that you know of?

Oops, sorry. My latest Neurosis purchase _is_ "Pain of Mind". It also includes a cd of live stuff circa late eighties. Haven't listened to the bonus disc yet. Um, Anthrax. I don't have the latest Neurosis. I think I will get the latest Isis. I think I will also get the latest Dalek.

for a long time Anthrax was dubbed "thrash". as a pigeonholing word, thrash is notoriously vague. If you've never seen BQ and bang it out to "Among the Living" you wouldn't be such a non-believer...

How about "Pre-Nu-Metal-Post-Black-Metal-Speed-Core" ??

I'm reconsidering my "love" for Anthrax. After all, Anthrax is Carrie Buchanan's favorite band.

yeesh. what are some cool bands that are considered thrash? all im trying to do is start a friendly conversation.... so much snobbery and cynicism...

No, just sarcasm. Except for a window of about 3 weeks senior year of H.S., I'm not sure I actually enjoy "thrash". Like: [list:471f875cb0] [*:471f875cb0] D.R.I. [*:471f875cb0] ... [/list:u:471f875cb0] OK, maybe that is "classic thrash", I still _love_ my Sepultra [i:471f875cb0]Roots[/i:471f875cb0] album. Back to Neurosis [i:471f875cb0]Pain of Mind[/i:471f875cb0]: too fast, too trebly, too forgettable. However, by the time they get to [i:471f875cb0]Enemy of the Sun[/i:471f875cb0], wow. I like my metal a little sludgy, a bit over-the-top drums-wise, a bit dark. How would you describe the sound of [i:471f875cb0]Enemy of the Sun[/i:471f875cb0]?

I would second the Roots album. The album before it (which name escapes me this moment) is quite excellent. Again, dumb me. I always thought it was just metal.

For that three weeks, though, Terry G. was all about the thrash. Painter's cap and everything.
