Yes, apparently it truly was a hoax.
And I wrote my elected officials and everything. The fact that my faith in my gov't and the security of American civil liberties is so low that I easily believed that this could happen (and actually, still have no reason to think it couldn't) is quite depressing.
So maybe I'll just send out holiday wishes for civil liberties, political self-determination and economic oppurtunity for all (excpet for Halliburton, which appears to have had rather too much economic opportunity, to the detriment of that of others). And while I'm at it, adequate health care, education and peace on earth.
