- Anything by MF Doom (the Dangermouse collab 'Dangerdoom' (Epitaph records) is a good starting point, and has a lot of fun w/ all the 'adult swim' characters to boot: Space Ghost, Harvey Birdman, Brak, aqua Teen Hunger Force, etc.
- Jesus Lizard 'Liar' (Touch and Go)
- Big Black 'Songs About Fucking (Touch and Go)
-John coltrane / Thelonius Monk Live @ carnegie Hall 1957 (Blue Note)
- Wilco 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot'
all I can think of this early in the am.

- The first 3 songs on Eric B. and Rakim's "Follow the Leader", MCA 1988, the basis for "Golden Era" hip-hop.
- "John Coltrane plays the Blues", Atlantic recordings 1966. Brilliant accessible jazz/blues. Timeless.
- "Michael Viner's Bongo Rock and Roll". Pride records 1973. Arguably the most sampled LP in hip-hop and undeniably catchy, plus BQ & tgl always request it when at my house.
- Theophilus Beckford, "Trenchtown Ska", pre-reggae, pre-ska mento-style beat from the late 50's/early 60's. Bob Marley is a distant 2nd place for Jamaican music.
- Faith, No More's "Angel Dust". Had to put some music by (and for) white guys on here...
