The Books

March 23, Museum of Fine Arts. The Books with some other bands I don't care about. Take drugs and see this show. It'll sell out so grab your tickets early.

what label are they on? where are they from? what do they sound like?

They're on a German label called Tomlab. The Books are from North Adams, MA. It's a duo, an acoustic guitarist and a cellist. They play songs into a computer, chop it up Aphex Twin-style, then they play on top of it again, augmented with bizarre found sound samples. Phenomenal. Live, they're augmented by a bass player and multi-instrumentalist. They play along to bizarrely-edited movies. Outstanding Click here for all your Books needs.

Travis: The Books are in London on February 3 at the Luminere. Don't fuck up and see this!

Eliza's brother put a couple Books songs on a mixed CD we've listened to several times driving. Then BQ put on the whole disc on at H3W, and I thoroughly enjoyed most it. Fairly trippy.

While I'm making references (fagens are for poo-says) to the Wire, I thought I should mention that Wire listed The Books as one of the top 50 albums of 2005 in its Jan. rewind 2005 issue...

sample mp3 here, scroll down to "issue #263" on the sidebar to the left and find "rewind 2005"

Anyone have their tix yet? The link on the MFA page isn't working for me.

I'm trying to find one of these hats for Eliza to wear to the show... Anyone else have tix yet? It's on Thursday.

I saw somewhere that they are playing later this year @ the MassMoca near Adams, Mass. I think I probably have a better chance of making that show... Nice hat though :)
