Baseball thoughts today

I've got a lot on my mind about baseball right now, here's the topics, maybe more discussion later:
  1. John Flaherty retired.
  2. Yesterdays USA-Canada Game
    1. Adam Stern is the new Gabe Kapler... and then some?
    2. Tek Slam
    3. I'm rooting for Canada to go all the way, as well as all the other underdog teams. F USA. F Dominica. F Venezuela. F Japan.
  3. Hanley. Glad we see the Marlins in June. Roadtrip?

I wonder if JVibe will do a reprint of their Jews in baseball issue.

Oh well, barring a South Africa vicory over the USA (US is starting a 43 year old has-been, mind you) Canada has been eliminated. So of the advancing teams, the USA, Dominicana, Venezuela, Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Mexico, you have to pull for the underdogs. Those would clearly be Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Korea. I'm digging the Mecixans and Puerto Ricans, but you have to give it up for the commies. Granted, it's for political reasons, but the Cuban team is the only team of the 16 that has _no_ MLB players. Have a Cigar.

Viva La Revolution! --- What does it say about the might of US foriegn policy that Fidel Castro is _still_ around? Prediction: we'll be making Hugo Chavez jokes in the year 2040. --- Lorbering (and thread hijacking): Has it cost more to oppose Castro over the past 50 odd years or our current tab for Iraq? (I'll even conveniently neglect to use the astonishing death rate in Iraq right now as part of that tally). --- Do you think Iraq will have a decent baseball system in 30 years? Then it might be worth it.

Don't laugh, but I would really like to do a fantasy baseball thing - but have never done it - where is a good place to go?

Not exactly a NYY free team. tsk.

Can't blame him for taking Jeter. I would. Hell, I wish Derek was on the Red Sox, with or without the hiv.

Re: my Yankees- whatever. If I get the fourth best shortstop in baseball in the eighth round because everyone passed on him by dint of his Yankee status, then more power to me.
