Philip Glass vs. Steve Reich

Just finished listening to all 36 minutes of "Music for 18 Musicians". I'll go for Reich over Glass. Anyone else?

I haven't heard enough of either of them to make a really informed decision...but I'd take Reich over Glass. His score for "The Dying Gaul" pretty much made the movie, and his piece for six(?) marimbas is way cool.

Einstein on the Beach, Kundun would initially put me in Glass's camp, but to be fair, my Reich listening has been severely limited - just a few pieces of WUNH vinyl peppered wih some reading and inaccurate hearsay. Maybe its time to spend some research time w/ Wiki and find a good album or two (or three or four...)

Any opinions out there on/ for Terry Reilly?

Minamalism info Here. Terry Reilly stuff there. Ina music course I took once, my professor was pretty gung ho about Glass, Reich, and Reilly. Glass and (to a lesser extent) Reich stuck with me, but just about all of what I remember of reilly at this point is his name. Reading the above wiki definition again, I can't help but seeing also the early music of the Talking Heads and Shellac as minimalist music.

"In C" and "A Rainbow on Curved Air" are super. Twisted Village played some saxophone thing he did over their speakers a while back. It was great, crazy great. Out of print, and extremely rare, unfortunately.

Phill Niblock...another minimalist great. Very drony, it's a knock-out.

I'm listening to Terry Riley's "In C" performed by Bang on a Can. It's fantastic!
