RIP Buck Owens

<a href="http://www.buckowens.com/press_release.html">buckowens.com</a>

I think it's a bit of a shame that most obits will cite Buck Owens participation on the Hee-Haw show or that he recorded "Act Naturally" first, before they mention (if they do) that he created the Bakersfield sound and had a string of number one hits. I am a fan.

Don't knock his Hee-Haw stint. That show, and him in particular, was formative for me. Every Saturday night it was Hee-Haw. Every Sunday night was Solid Gold.

I did not mean to put down Hee-Haw at all. My perception is that the average person (?) sees Buck Owens as a comedic entertainer from his Hee-Haw stint and not a serious musician a la Johnny Cash.

You ain't wrong.

But I did love him in Hee-Haw. And as a child I was grateful to him for supplying Ringo Starr with "Act Naturally".

Could you recommend his 3 best tunes?

Sweethearts in Heaven
Under Your Spell Again
