TenDiamonds in hospice
So 10D got the helicopter ride from Sherborn to the BU Medical Center yesterday. It turns out that when a Jeep Cheroke rear-ends you at 30 mph while you're atop a BMW motorcycle you get the helicopter ride. The Man is OK and in decent spirits considering... although, the narcotics have him puking a bit:

I guess 10D just spent last night there, and he might be on his way home in a couple of hours.
Also: I'm really hoping he's not in Hospice care: that's for in-home end stage terminal patients...
Will the doctors be able to reattach the beard?
My mother's in hospice care now.
Rich, I hope you don't know about hospice through personal experience. Thanks for your concise definition - very tastefully said.
And I do hope that 10D's ok.
All things considered, I'm in really great shape. I have a couple of cracked vertabrae, a couple of scrapes on my legs, many bruises all over my body and a bunch of pulled muscles.
BH, You're full of shit. Motorcycle safety is very real and valid. There's little we can do about getting rear ended in traffic by stupid little girls in their parents cars. I would be in a lot worse shape had I not been wearing proper gear, and the scrapes on my legs are due to the fact that my Carhartts are _not_ proper riding gear, and I will be getting better pants before I start riding again.
Indeed I was not in hospice. My mother was once in hospice as well, I'm sorry to hear about yer mum, Pamsterdam.
The shave is a coincidence, I did that on Sunday.
Samantha is in pretty bad shape, I gather. I haven't seen her, but she was happily purring on the side of the road as I waited for the ambulance and I had to ask one of the useless onlookers to go switch her off. I have a feeling that mechanically she's fine, but all of the plastic doo-dads, that are the difference betwixt a chopper and a motorcycle are gone.
Uh, that's all I can think of right now.
Do I understand correctly that your mother was in hospice and then somehow pulled through? I'd love to hear about it, if that's the case. I guess doctors don't know everything, right?
PS - Give in and buy leather riding gear. I'm serious. You'll look totally gay but you'll save your legs some damage if there's a next time.
I'm sorry to say that my mother was in hospice and did not pull through. Doctors do not know everything.
I wear proper riding gear, with the exception of the aforementioned pants, which I intend to rectify. As a student in the art of motorcycle safety, I wouldn't be caught dead (literally) in leathers. They are crap. The synthetics you can get now, made of kevlar and gore tex and all sorts of other fancy stuff are lighter, more comfortable and _much_ better protection. Leather riding gear is a fashion statement.
I'm really sorry. Cracked vertebrae are no joke.
And I'm sorry to hear about your mum, Pamsterdam.
I didn't realise about leathers being a fashion statement - that's useful ammunition. I shall delightedly bring this up with my friend who refuses to ride any non-Japanese motorcycles and mocks me for fancying German design.
When's your birthday? It would be kinda cool if Rideside pitched in to have custom-made full-body fancy riding gear with tacky slogans all over... Heh heh heh.
I hope you're not in pain. Did they hook you up?
Speaking specificly on a statistic basis:
With over 7+ years in the rehabilitative services experience as an Occupational Therapist, there is a really high # of younger (people under the age of 40)patients my wife has seen and worked with that have been in MVA (Motor Vehicle Accidents). In the MVA category, more of these are motorcycle accidents than any other motor vehicle.
I think the Buzz was just saying, as with everything else in life, that motorcycling is associated with risks - maybe more risks in motorcycling than in other life activities.
Lots of finger-wagging in their direction!

Is that youR Carhartts and jacket laying on the road? Did you get cut out of them?
Yes, I was cut out of them.

Nothin'.
I'm rather bruised, and have limited range of motion, but I'm able to be up and about, and I've been coming to work this week.
Virtually all care and maintenance of the BOJ is handled by the wife, although, once she puts him in the high chair, I can shove food in his face.
there is nothing quite as joyful as attempting to get food into the mouth of a "busy" infant...
Get better soon.
How's the patient doing these days?
I'm OK, I went to the neurosurgeon on Monday and I'm healing very well. My vertebrae are all bound back together so I don't need the back brace anymore and I'm allowed to pick up my son. I'm going to my doctor to (hopefully) get started on physical therapy on Friday.
