Preakness!

Wearin' my Barbaro shirt for luck.

A horse is a horse of course of course.

"It's almost too big!"

Sort of fitting: Barbaro is injured in the Preakness.

'Injured', yes. 'Almost died', <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/horse/triplecrown06/columns/story?id=2452447">perhaps.</a>
Race horses break legs everyday, and sometimes it takes a Triple Crown contender for us to realize what fighters these horses really are. And unlike Barry Bonds, they don't get to choose which steroids they intake.

714 and Barbaro: Let's remember both.

Barbaro's injury = obvious but amazing metaphor.

I still don't really understand what happened to hurt Barbaro's leg. All I saw was the limping and the end of the race.

Race horses are essentially freaks of nature with huge upper bodies loaded with quick twitch muscles and a ridiculous sense of sport. Barbaro simply ran so hard in the beginning hundred yards, he destroyed his own ankle. Not uncommon.

They shoot horses, don't they?

My cat thought they were delicious.

It was pretty horrible to watch, I have to say...

Saw Ushinksi at the Silhouette last night. Upon being informed of the horse's surgery, he said this of the horse: "He won't be running."

That line kept running through my mind this morning as I mowed my lawn for the first time.

Posted by tgl on 2006-05-22 18:13:34 +0000
I knew it: They still use horses to mow lawns in Nashville.

What do they do with all the lame horses who fail at these races? Send 'em to the glue factory?

Posted by tgl on 2006-05-22 18:44:46 +0000
Cat food.

Posted by MF DU on 2006-05-22 18:53:36 +0000
