Shoe repair

Am I an idiot for spending $85 to resole a pair shoes I bought for $80? All signs pointed to 'yes,' but my man at Davis Sq Shoe repair thinks that the leather will last 15-20 years. He says I have "$60 worth of Italian leather and 10 cents worth of plastic sole." Will Pchippy, back me up? Vibram = When only the best will do.

Never judge a man until you've walked in his resoled shoes...

Resoling is where it's at.

I'm all about resoling shoes. I bought new soles for my fave Fluevogs in December and brought them back to Nashville for repair, but the guys here don't have the right glue. I'm bringing them back in June and going to have them send them to me when they're fixed. It's totally worth it if the shoes fit and you're going to wear them again and again.

I support resoling. Besides, you may have only paid $80 for the shoes originally, but how much would it cost you to replace them with an identical pair?

Are these the Dunham Eye-talian Style Clod-hoppers? --- $20 shoes will last one year. $80 will last several years and --should-- be resolable. $200+ shoes will last a lifetime (I'm thinking Florsheim, Johnston & Murphy, Limmer).
