Warning: New Home Depot scam!!!

Do not be fooled into thinking this is an urban myth! It isn't. I got this email from a serious and esteemed friend. Date: Tue, 30 May 2006 12:02:20 -0400 From: "Stefan Teitge" To: (list) HOME DEPOT SCAM A "heads up" for you and any friends you have who may be regular Home Depot customers. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you. Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 18 or 19-year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping in the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say "No" and instead ask you for a ride to another Home Depot. You agree and they get in the back seat. On the way, they start having sex with each other. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and performs oral sex on you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen May 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, three times just yesterday, and very likely again this coming weekend. Again - please beware!

My third read and it's still funny. --- I wanted to find a link the NY Times article on the Home Depot shareholders meeting I read last Saturday. While I've always been troubled by the way Home Depot treats it's staff and customers, as well as the effect of the mega-stores on small businesses (the back bone of this country is the independent business), the contempt the CEO and Board of Directors displayed to it's shareholders was particularly shameful. Need to find that link. Pay to read. I've always thought of shareholders and Wall Street as a way of democratizing the American corporation. It's just not true. There is nothing that compells a corporation to respond to the wishes of it's shareholders. It's only until one shareholder gains enough power, i.e., owns a majority of shares, to replace the Board of Directors does the corporation reflect the wishes of that one shareholder. Consumers and customers of the corporation ultimately have more say over how a corporation operates than the owners of the business. Which isn't a bad thing, just a disappointing thing for a small shareholder, i.e., the vast majority of the middle class.
