....that Tori Amos had killed herself. Which is funny, because I don't really dislike her, and haven't even thought of her for months.

Tori makes me happy in the jordache. (will anyone help me get this one going?)

10D-- You might have to explain the origins of 'jordache' to us before we start using it.
Posted by G lib on 2006-06-16 14:05:21 +0000
I HATE TORI AMOS! SHE IS EVIL!
Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-16 14:54:35 +0000
Im with G lib on this: My initial reaction to the Buzz's dream was like 'Old Yeller', I love stories that have happy endings. But, that's too mean... or is it?
Posted by dawnbixtler on 2006-06-16 15:22:06 +0000
I dig Tori. She's not PJ Harvey, but when the mood is right and I'm in my Jordache...
Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-16 15:25:25 +0000
which is worse: Ani Difranco or Tori Amos?
discuss.
Posted by LP on 2006-06-16 15:25:09 +0000
Angst doesn't really get my jordache going.
Posted by dawnbixtler on 2006-06-16 15:26:50 +0000
Both are pretty fucking good, but Ani is one of the top 5 female guitar players of all time, so Tori's worse...
Posted by LP on 2006-06-16 15:28:34 +0000
Worse? Hello! Best.
Ani is. She's eternal.
Tori is sooooo '96.
.

Dawn gets seconded re: Ani being one of the top five female guitarists of all time. She's sick.
I don't mind Tori Amos as much as I mind her fans, who are inevitably these wierdos who are either professional victims or have a girlish D & D streak to them.
Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-16 15:56:30 +0000
I'm afraid I've steered this post into eerily similar waters as The Phish post from some time ago.
In all honestly, the stigma of the followers in Ani, Tori, Phish, Albini, Zorn etc. 's case probably puts folks off more than the artists or the music itself.
that being said, I do have some fun poking fun at Tori anyhoo.
girlish D+D = lol
Posted by buzzorhowl on 2006-06-16 16:04:45 +0000
It's the Jandek fans, though, that you REALLY have to watch out for.
Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-16 16:22:26 +0000
First, I really dig Tori.
Second, I think Ani is OK.
Third, my wife has an Ani live album, and it is possibly the worst pile of feces I've ever heard. She is so fucking full of herself all she does is banter and think it's cute. Talk about bad listening.
Fourth, Tori covers Smells Like Teen Spirit, and it's great.
Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-16 16:23:24 +0000
Oh, and Tori's hot.
Posted by G lib on 2006-06-16 16:24:20 +0000
Tori is gross.
Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-16 16:26:30 +0000
Tori is lrf.
Posted by LP on 2006-06-16 17:19:54 +0000
I'd do her.
Posted by G lib on 2006-06-16 17:26:50 +0000
eew.

ick.

If Ani DiFranco is one of the top 5 women guitarists of all time, who're the other 4? I'll take a stab and say: Bonnie Raitt, Donna R, Joan Jett and Maggie Roche.

Fucking amazing post, that. I guess it's like saying that Stricken for Catherine is one of the five best New Hampshire emo math metal bands ever.
Having said that:
Melissa Ethridge
The Indigo Girls
Tracy Chapman
Kat Bjelland
Courtney Motherfuckin' LOVE
Jonie Mitchell
Go!

Last night I dreamt
That somebody loved me
No hope, no harm
Just another false alarm
Last night I felt
Real arms around me
No hope, no harm
Just another false alarm
So, tell me how long
Before the last one ?
And tell me how long
Before the right one ?
The story is old - I know
But it goes on
The story is old - I know
But it goes on
Oh, goes on
And on
Oh, goes on
And on
P.S. I agree with Courtney Love - rock just isn't exciting if it's by women. Rock is all about the... Well, you know.

I don't know the Rocke's, so I'd put Megan Mclaughlin in the top 5. I've said it before on the back porch. Seriously, Megan could be my favorite out of any of them.
I do like Bonnie Raitt. Jonie Mitchell = amazing voice, but no better than say Bob Dylan on guitar. Hadn't really thought about Tracy Chapman...
Posted by buzzorhowl on 2006-06-18 03:17:06 +0000
Totally forgot Megan.

One of the studio discs I have of Tracy Chapman ('Crossroads' maybe?) has, in addition to her wonderful playing, some guitar work by Vernon Reid.
I've always really liked Chapman's voice.
I (and like maybe three other males) saw her @ the Pavillion maybe 6 years or so ago. Excellent show.
Also saw her in 1996ish @ a church on the campus of Harvard.
I hope to see her again someday...

I listen to Barbaro monthly.
Posted by LP on 2006-06-19 10:54:28 +0000
Bonnie Rait. Joan Jett. I like the sound of that.
I feel like we're forgeting people... I love Sleater-Kinney.
I never really paid attention to the gender of the person rocking the guitar... maybe that's why I don't have much to add here.

What About:
Mary Timony - Helium
PJ Harvey
Nancy Wilson - Heart

good call on S-K.
I think they shred. I loved 'The Woods'
In fact - thinking about S-K helps me to forget all of the past 'jordache' comments about Tori...
