My first forum

Today is Friday. Yet, I am about to self combust. I don't think I can make it through the extra hour and 1/2 I'd intended on staying here. (Yes, that's 4:30. I knew from the get-go this morning that I'd be an early day.) Why is my patience with work so short today? Why when I am self-employed do I feel beholden to stay and work when I clearly am not of the mindset to do so? What kind of work ethic have us Americans been handed and how do we rid ourselves of it?

From someone who's counting the minutes until the end of the day, and tracking both World Cup games on the net, ....LP go home, It's Friday, it's summer.

Mmmm. Good idea.

play urban dead.

Work on my book has become more glacial than usual -- chalk it up to summer.

Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-23 16:21:22 +0000
Glaciers melt more in the summer. What an inconvienient truth.

Posted by Miriam on 2006-06-27 15:17:48 +0000
Southerners generally move slowly because it's hot...especially in summer.

The a/c just broke in my car which wouldnt be a big deal if I was just going aroung down, but having an hour plus commute in business clothes and greeting my co workers in an "emerging from the jungle" style isnt as great as you might think. a side benefit of uncomfortable muggy heat is that my appetite goes way down - this coupled with my recent sensible diet will have my 6 foot 2 frame back to XL tshirts and 38 waist in no time :)

It'll be good that you are losing (at least water) weight. That should give you an extra few precious inches between your body sweat and your exterior clothing. Might insulate the smell as well.

Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-27 16:14:27 +0000
good point. I'm also drinking lots of water these days - Id recommend it - I got bogged down for awhile in thinking that whatever beverage I had had to have some "Flavor" to it - however when my body tells me it is thirsty nothing works as well as water no matter what those sports beverage companies tell you :)

You should commute in the nude, and then get dressed in the parking lot.

Gotta say, the industrial sized Gatorade in my fridge comes in mighty handy when I come in from mowing the yard for an hour.

Posted by Miriam on 2006-06-27 16:18:52 +0000
I've come to terms with parking in the shade...at home and at work.

Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-27 16:20:42 +0000
I didnt mean to come off anti - Gatorade - I enjoy that after a lawn mowing myself - I just mean after drinking smething with flavor that I like, there has to be some psychological element of my body wanting more of that flavor even after thirst has been quenched.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-27 16:22:41 +0000
Mowing my lawn took at least 5 Gatorades (24 oz)

Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-27 16:23:35 +0000
I've been keeping cool by eating a lot of York Peppermint Patties... I'm not losing my water weight, though.

The AC in my office is broken. Not the building, just three of the four offices in my zone. It's on full bore, all day, I'm friking freezing in here. First I turned on all the lights, and my extra computer, but they were no match for the industrial HVAC. Gadi and I taped a piece of paper over the vent, which worked excellently, but the whistling sound of some air seeping through drove me more nuts than freezing. The next brilliant move by Gadi, we removed one of the panels of drop ceiling from my office, and inserted it under the one that has the vent, with the paper and tape. Problem solved. Plus, I have all of this nice vertical space above the now missing panel.

alright - FUCK the diet - can I come over to your house ;) ...

Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-27 16:32:30 +0000
Its gettinq to work - Quigley style :)

Posted by Miriam on 2006-06-27 16:34:48 +0000
Why not just put some felt up there? No whistle, and it'll act as a filter.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-27 16:40:06 +0000
Sure, but the Pepperment Patties are in my (formerly) frigid office... The AC at home is excellent, and the house is comfy, come on over. We even have a playground in the backyard if you bring yer critter.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-27 16:41:22 +0000
I'm trying to _block_ the flow, not filter it... unless felt will filter out the cold molecules. Is cold one of the basic elements? air, fire, water, earth and cold?

Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-27 16:49:33 +0000
cool - as far as critters are concerned: how is yours? Are you getting mashed together sentences yet?

Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-06-27 16:54:29 +0000
Critter == good. He's walking and making wordlike noises, some of which correspond to things... no sentences yet.

Apologies to LP: I have taken yr "My first forum" thread and run with it. Once they start, they don't stop: "Daddy's a goofball" "I Want To Watch ODA with Daddy" (Star Wars / Yoda refrences already...) "Chikken Wuggets" "I Want To See Me" (She says this when she wants to pick her up "Happy Birrrrrth-Daaaaay to Maddieeee" are some of my personal faves. See "Part Animal / Part Machine" thread for recent pics. Apologies to LP: I have taken yr "My first forum" thread and run with it...

"Part Animal / Part Machine" will have to wait - I can't log in to Yahoo, which means I cant get into FLICKR = no shared pictures. I searched the web and there are several other people that have reported Flaky Yahoo connections lately (FLAKR?) Anybody here notice anything?

I have no shame when it comes to my fairy-god daughter, so I thought I'd share the latest one. Check out the pants-- they're from me.

Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-28 09:37:18 +0000
very cute. best pants EVER! (I Love the shoes too, those are Robeez - Maddie had 2 or 3 pairs of those as an infant - they are like these suedeish moccasin thingies)

This rocks. I like the way an entirely cranky posting (I don't want to work; I want to leave; blah blah blah) turned into the happiest cutest posting ever. Baby girls! In pants with felt trees on them! Rideside chat board rules. I want a Peppermint Patty.
