At least three that I know of:
-Liars at Paradise
-Jello Boafra at Somerville Theater
-Bauhaus and Nine Inch Nails at Tweeter Center
Me and Mr. Mister are doing the latter -- yow!

yow. Have fun.
I saw NIN w/ QOTSA last November. Excellent set from both bands.
Bauhaus only makes it even more of a draw.
Be good.

I can't wait to get GPS.
You shouldn't give him shit for that Buzz.
Those of us w/out internal compasses can seriously turn a 30 min drive into a 3 hour one.
Glad to see you guys had a good time :)

Went to the Liars/Apes show. Dunno why it was at the Paradise. Maybe 150 people there. If this was at Great Scott it might have been the show of the year.
Apes were the better of the two, IMHO. A gym teacher on the drums doing a great Bonham impersonation without any of the fills. Some reject from a 70s glam band on guitar. A spritely tomboy on keys who went from "man, can she play" to "man, she cannot play" and back in seconds. The front man was a dead ringer for Pharrell. They had the look and they had a great mix of no- and new-wave. Will definitely look into their stuff later.
The three dudes in Liars came out with three guitars, two drum kits, three mixing boards, and two of them "sang." And if you're thinking, "wait, there's not enough hands to play all those instruments," you'd be correct and at times their reach exceeded their grasp. But no matter, as this was not rock and roll but tribal, virgin-sacrificing music. The front guy drove the point home that all Australians really are descendants from criminals. Or they never use soap. Your pick.

I must say some of the tunes on the newest one aren't bad, either.
Only: "There is no fucking you, there is only me" = Trent in true form.
The guy is pretty WYSIWYG. I mean this as a compliment, not an insult.
Good light show? Did they have those rectangular video screen thingies?
Posted by buzzorhowl on 2006-06-25 12:52:50 +0000
They did. At one point, digital blood was running off of Reznor's head- pretty sick.

Its nice when one does go to the shows in the bigger venues when the performer gives you the most bang for the buck - I had a similar feeling when I saw Weezer / Foo Fighters @ the DCU Center in Worcester last year.
I went in thinking it would be all Weezer, but D. Grohl has the arena thing down pat. I cant stomach arena shows all the time, but the people watching coupled with the excessive lights / video, etc. can make for a good time. Its a sign of the times, though, that now when a 'slow song' comes on that everyone throws up the led screen of their flip cell phone and not a cigarette lighter. (Although if you were @ Great Woods Im sure you caught a whiff or 2 of second hand sweet leaf [sweat loaf?])

Second hand?
Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-26 08:38:45 +0000
second hand smoke? were there stoners near you smoking the marijuana?
Posted by mr. mister on 2006-06-26 09:07:09 +0000
second hand? Trent definetely said F-CK at least fifty times. For such a small word it really does jumpstart the song. It really struck me that no other artist uses the word F-CK so much and so effectively. His first song had a chorus like "remember who the f-ck you are" Why not just say "remember who you are" Because that's not who the f-ck you are, the rocking you! YEAOW

Reminds me of an argument between Johnny (JOHNNY!) and Sid in Sid & Nancy.
Sid: [playing on his bass] And we don't fucking care!
Johnny (JOHNNY!): No, there's no "fucking". It's just "we don't care"
Posted by MF DU on 2006-06-26 11:05:21 +0000
Love that flick.
Nancy (Crying): 'They said we were going to use the $$$$ for drugs!!!!' 'Waaaaaaah!'
Sid (indifferent / nodding out / aka Sid being Sid): '...well, we would.'

I worshipped Johnny because of how he came across in that movie. Anti-drugs, anti-sex, anti-stupidity, pro-anger, pro-sarcasm, pro-sulking. He was everything I aspired to as a nerdy, virginal, anglophilic teen.
Never understood Sid fans. Still don't. Dumb junkies just aren't cool.
