A Showtime documentary on the making of the album will air the following week.

First couple of listens of Smile: The separation is awesome on 5.1!!!!
this just makes me more thirsty to hear the Beach Boys vault stuff aside from several of the bootlegs I have....
Wilson's voice seems to be a bit deeper, but this album really all flows together nicely!
Im excited about the documentary Showtime is promoting...hopefully that'll make it to DVD a la Netflix.....

Please describe what you mean by "separation" to this budding audiophile. (...or maybe hoping to be budding audiophile).

Church in one ear, state in the other.

Separation (although I am not a hugely knowledgable audio enthusiast so I may be talking out of my ass here -please chime in if this is the case): I am referring to Really pimped out in the way Smile was engineered and then distributed through 5.1 system speakers (even though its a regular cd, I plugged it through my "5 channel stereo" selector on my receiver: and I get Wilson's voice out of front channel, backing vocals from left and right rear speakers, the rest emanantig from main left and right speakers... I've got the subwoofer too, but sometimes I cant tell if it adds or detracts. I haven'theard this disc enough yet.
Some Multichannel SACD / DVD-A discs I have are monsters:
-Yoshimi / Robots (Flaming Lips)
-P. Floyd (oh jesus here we go... bring it on) 'dark side'
-B. Boys - Pet Sounds
-Who - Tommy
Stereo SACD:
Mission of Burma OnOffOn
-good clarity, but my ears arent sensitive enought o tell a difference between regular cd and sacd
a good source for 5 channel audio (and really good plain stereo standard discs - also vinyl - there not complete digital bastards all the time - I frequently check out www.musictap.net
they also have a great column of all punk news that is updated weekly or so: its called Duane's Pit Stop. This Duane dude stalks all the right websites so you dont have to.
Also Music Tap's release spreadsheet usually has lots of good release news chestnuts...
