State Of The (Red Sox) Nation
I'm sick of it already. Seriously. All summer long people have been dumping on Varitek for his sub-par offense, but now that he's hurt, the Sox are being buried.
Fuck that.
Wells is pitching again (we all know that he has to throw a garbage game before he pitches well, right?), Wake's coming back, and there's a five game series with the Yankees coming up. Too early for all this sky-is-falling bullshit.
If I've learned anything from RSN: Its that the sky is ALWAYS FALLING!

Power. Power. Power. Power.

That's ridiculous.

Umm, eleven?
(I guess the Star is a publication too. Lol)
b) Varitek's offense has sucked and most likely would have continued to suck. He's still the best catcher in baseball, and he makes our hurting pitching staff look better. Beckett pitching to Belli tonight will not be as good as Beckett would have been pitching to Tek. Hence: Sky Falling.
c) Yankees are on a tear, and they are super-powerful, and they have Abreu.
d) I still think the Sox have the east this season. After they win a one game playoff in which The Offfense makes a mockery of Mussina (and Johnson gets the snub)
B) I have yet to see anyone mention the fact that Varitek's season this year has been at least a month longer than ususal b/c of the World Baseball Classic. No excuse, just an observation. Re: the defense, you're right, but I expect that Varitek will help 'Belli with the calling.
I rubbed Maddie Nigs's belly at the beginning of the bottom of the ninth...
Detroit is going to win the Series, I think. But I'm not giving up yet.
Two more against CHW, then three in a row against the Royals -- there's a series at home against Minnesota in a few weeks, too.
What's our Clinch number?
As tgl pointed out, they need to win 6 games to avoid elimination. That means that if The Sox win only 6 more games, and all of the other teams play the _worst_ possible baseball, The Sox may make the playoffs.
It's Grim.
The Royals are statistically eliminated.
