Shrewsbury Cakes

"Half a pound of butter, half a pound of flour, three quarters of a pound sifted sugar, one egg, a quarter of an ounce of carraway seeds. Mix all these ingredients well together, make into a paste, and roll out thin, using as little flour as possible ; cut them out with a round cutter, and bake in a hot oven." From The Skillful Housewife's Book: or Complete Guide to Domestic Cookery, Taste, Comfort and Economy, by Mrs. L.G. Abell, author of Gems by the Wayside, Woman in Her Various Relations, etc.
