Bleak House

Just finished the PBS series last night. Very enjoyable. I know it's a gimmick, but I love the character names. Smallweed. Crooke. Skinpol. Honoria. Flight. Guppy. Anyway, thought the Esther character was played very well. Didn't feel _too_ much sympathy for Lady Dedlock. Would have liked to no more about the Jardyce, Barbary, Boynethorne (?) relationship. The camera work was a bit nauseating at times, lots of half-obscured shots which seemed over dramatic. I guess that's what TV looks like nowadays. Can I get a suggestion for a Dickens novel to read? I can't seem to remember ever reading one... er, OK, I have read Great Expectations and an abridged Twist Any others?

I have A Sale of Two Titties ummm. wait a sec - that's not Dickens... never mind.

No, but seriously... Tale of Two Cities rocks. Classic characters and time period. For me it made the musical Les Miserables much more fun than actually reading the book Les Miserables.

Read it once in 9th grade, liked it. Read it again two summers after I graduated from college, loved it.

I read 'Hard Times' in Hutter's class, and thought it was okay. If you like Dickens, you'll LOVE John Irving.

I re-read it a couple of years ago and was not dissappointed. Very interesting. Lots of drama.

Didn't he also write Great Expectations also? The book is MUCH better than the Hawke/Paltrow movie version that came out in the last decade.

David Copperfield is very good. Little Dorrit is good. I don't care much for Oliver Twist or Hard Times. The Pickwick Papers is pleasant but has no plot to speak of.

Pickwick is Dicken's take on Mamet, then? What about Barnaby Rudge, or is that a Monty Python gag as well?
