good stuff from the Broken Flowers (Bill Murray drives around the country looking for ex-girlfriends) soundtrack

Ah, thanks. I liked the movie and the soundtrack. The Wife is now an avowed Jim Jarmusch hater. "Dead Man" followed by "Broken Flowers" did not help to persuade her otherwise. I think "Ghost Dog" will clinch it (I'm avoiding "Down By Law" for now).
We did see "Coffee and Cigarettes" awhile back. Since it wasn't a movie-movie, I think she was OK with it.
My ace-in-the-hole will be "Mystery Train". There is no resistance to Cahl Perkins.

Mulatu Astatke rocks. I also found this music through the Broken Flowers film.
I led off the last set I dj'd with some of Astatke's stuff.
I would also highly reccomend Ethiopiques 4 (various artists, but mostly M. Astatke). Which is a collection of some of the craziest ass Ethio Jazz I have ever heard.
Sorry to hear that TGL's missus despises Jarmusch (although Id be willing to bet Jackie would commiserate)
Loved Mystery Train, Broken Flowers, Ghost Dog,and Coffee and Cigarettes. Isnt't there also some film about cab drivers from all throughout the globe (one of which I remmeber played by Winona Ryder) that Jimmy had some involvement in?

I really liked Stranger than Paradise. There are a lot of scenes consisting of nothing but awkward silence and cigarette smoking. I should probably watch Ghost Dog again. I think I was let down because it wasn't really an action film and that didn't fit my vision of a film with a soundtrack by the RZA. Coffee and Cigarettes A-

Mulatu came here and played with the Either/Orchestra a while back. I've known Russ, E/O leader for a while. They were first American band to play at Ethiopian Jazz Festival. There's a two CD live set out...that I hate to admit I haven't listened to all the way through. E/O plays regularly at the place that used to be Zeitgeist Gallery, but I can't remember the name.

Zeitgeist used to host Ken Vandermark all the time.
Did The Fringe used to play there as well?

As a fellow Jim Jarmusch hater, I have to say that you might want to go with down by law, which, other than stranger in paradise, is the only one I really like--even Joe Strummer couldn't make Mystery Train happen for me.
Ok, I don't really hate Jim Jarmusch. I just find his movies so sedating. How could I hate anybody who got the film for their first movie from Wim Wenders?

It's definitely hard to watch people just sitting around but I kind of like it. Maybe somewhere in the future really good movies will be really boring!
