Instruction is wierd if you listen to it and Wiley at the same time.

coolness.
I'll let Jackie know I want to purchase a new cd for "research purposes" and see how that goes over....
Daycare budget will continue to preclude my aquisition of new media for many moons to come I'm afraid....
But Maddie's worth it. I have to get her CBGB photo up on the photo.net page before the Ramones 30th anniversary...

true. true. but we wouldn't want to take food out of Joe's mouth now would we ;0

Joe's getting paid whether you buy the CD or not. However, unless they sell probably a minimum of 100,000 CDs, they probably won't be continued to be paid to do Instruction.

Ah yes. Albini's essay about being in a band on a major label comes to mind....

I was just playing devils advocate with the RIAA's standpoint. I usually burn stuff so I can hear it right away (the instant gratification thing) and buy it when I have a convenient opportunity (So I can get the artwork, support friends, etc.)

Rich, you're glad Jackie isn't reading this topic.

That Albini article, along with the man himself, is over rated.
Posted by rladew on 2004-08-30 12:50:40 +0000
apparently he's never publicly berated you or bent you over a piano.
Weston/Albini/Trainer singled me out @ a Shellac show in 95 for taking notes (for use in a zine Glumac and Fournier were doing). I got verbally reamed and then, I got to read about it a week later in the Boston Phoenix.
I've been Albini's bitch ever since :)

When he played Worcester on thier first tour all the Worcester crew gave him the hardest time.
He was being a baby right away, complaining about the sound system and getting annoyed because we were drinking underage.
This guy Chip kept going up to him and saying, "Oh my God are you Steve Albini? Can I touch You?" , then he would poke him.
Needless to say Steve was thrilled.
Weston also had a run in with Steve from Guerrero
who physically grabbed the mike from him when he started talking about The blackstone river valley like he knew something about it.
They were doing there talk to the crowd bit and that topic came up. Bob started rambling off some supposed facts and Steve(he is a big guy), just walked up to the stage and was like, "That's bullshit, you don't know what you are talking about...." and took the mike. Steve was a geography major. Bob was just scared.
My band opened and since Shellac didn't watch us our singer Cueball shit talked them between every song.
The show was awesome though. All the Worcester kids started a dancey, non jock pit and all the Boston scensters stood around us and acted annoyed.
I think someone had one of those silly fake yelling fights between one of the songs and Steve smugly said(obviously to the Boston contingent),
"Yeah, I was in high school once."
and one of us yelled "And now your and old fuck"
Good times

This is the sort of provincialism that annoys me. While I'm the first to admit being a New England elitist and to make jokes about how Connecticut is really part of New York, it's still just a joke. People get caught up about their town, their city, their scene, and have a righteous indignation against "not-from-heres". How is that different from fervent nationalism, jingoism, chauvanistic patriotism?
Can't people outside of Worcester be a little excited about how cool the Blackstone River Valley is?

Common, Rory! Grammar! It should be "you're" as a contraction of "you are". We'll let the typo go... Sure it was high school? ;)

What a big man YOU ARE,
I'll buy a pack of gum ,maybe you can show me how to chew it
Posted by tgl on 2004-08-30 16:42:09 +0000
OK, maybe I was a little rough. Everyone _was_ in high school (well, 11 years ago? sheesh, not even high school) during the "At Action Park" tour.

Yo man,
If you ain't never been to the Blackstone Valley...

This thread = fantastic.
At the Portland show (the one where Black Helicopter opened) I asked Bob Weston if black was his real hair color (I had just seen him a few months back with grey hair doing tape loops for Mission of Burma.) He was embarrased.
