Prickly City

Posted by tendiamonds on 2007-01-03 02:27:07 +0000
Really? Prickly City? I've been very disappointed with it over the past year.

I've been looking forward to PC whenever I pick up the Glob Sidekick. At least, I'll read Red Rover first; the replacement for Fox Trot is having a rough start.

Horrible strip, spreading the air plane lie. The new Mallard Filmore?

It's almost worse, as it's written by a conservative, and he writes his conservative and liberal characters intending to create a dialog, but misses liberal perspective entirely.

Kinda like how all the liberal arts media portray their conservatives characters as either cranky old white men with padlocks on their ears or overachieving yuppies?

Posted by tendiamonds on 2007-02-22 13:35:58 +0000
Or poor trash that are suckers for what the cranky old white men tell them.

The "redneck" so to speak? But are they truly "conservative" or are they just jingoistic and isn't there a distinction?

There is a distinct segment of poor middle-Americans that believe the wealthy got to be where they are by following the rules, and want to follow in their footsteps, so they support their policies.

It's a lie that Bush told Pelosi she should take government airplanes instead of commercial ones because of security reasons?

Posted by tgl on 2007-02-22 14:42:09 +0000
Cranky old white men describes Mallard Fillmore, Jeff Jacoby, George Will, and Rush Limbaugh. So... that's the liberal media's fault?

Posted by mahatma chani on 2007-02-22 14:44:58 +0000
All I'm saying is that it's very short-sighted and lazy to just list those people (and types) as conservatives.

I will sit this one out after this post, but I must admit Im enjoying the dialogue.

No, what you first implied is that the popular image of "conservatives" is based on a liberal media bias. I'm claiming that self-proclaimed conservatives in the marketplace tend to reinforce the C.O.W.M. image. To make up for my laziness: Ramesh Ponnuru of the National Review is a conservative who doesn't fit that image (he's young and Indian and not too cranky). You can see him on the NewsHour from time to time. Are you claiming that the only conservatives that liberals allow into the mainstream media are those that fit into the C.O.W.M. mold? Since I posted PC to this page, and the "conservative" character is protrayed as a tween, racially ambiguous girl... well, if you think my notions of conservatives are lazy and short-sighted, fine.

Sorry... after re-reading, I see that MC doesn't think the list is a good one which _is_ related to what I was responding to. I think my list is a good one, without Ponnuru and the girl of PC. If a sometimes pundit on the NewsHour is the key to showing that not all prominent conservative voices in the media are caricatures of a liberal viewpoint, then I think I made my point. Wait... McLaughlin! he's a C.O.W.M. that's a liberal.

No, that's true. The lie is Pelosi asked for it. Even in today's strip they are saying Pelosi asked for a larger plane. Totally false.

Yes.

Not entirely sure what Stantis's got against construction workers, but it seems he doesn't like national health care, yet has no joke to tell. Weird.

Posted by cdubrocker on 2007-11-16 19:03:36 +0000
It's doctors-as-teamsters, I think. Anti-union, not anti-construction worker.

Posted by tgl on 2007-11-16 19:05:42 +0000
It's the same lame joke about national health care and how it would work if it was government run. Which doesn't have anything to do with the national health _insurance_ debate this country needs to be having.

Gotcha. It would be like Soviet bread lines, etc. Not a dig on construction workers, though it reads as one.
