Good Intentions

This morning, I woke up about an hour before my alarm and decided that it was time to move around more than from my bed to the couch. I went to the gym! Had a great workout on the bike with some weights and a three week old copy of the Economist. Stretched, then headed home in the arctic weather. When I pulled up to my house, I realized that I had my car keys, id and cell phone, but that I'd left my house keys in my purse on my kitchen floor. Ugh. Called the woman who watched my house for three weeks, but she didn't answer. Luckily my sister did! She was only a few minutes away getting a smoothie. Of course, that meant it was actually more like 20 minutes before she got there to let me in the house. I took an Israeli-fast shower and managed to drink a cup of Arabic coffee (grounds mixed with freshly ground cardamom in the cup) and eat a bowl of vanilla yogurt with strawberries and sliced almonds before shooting out the door for work. Let's see if I can do better the rest of the day!

Q: What's the difference between an Israeli shower and a French bath?

An Israeli shower involves water, but very little. I took a 5 minute shower, rather than my usual 15-20 minutes. It's all about water conservation.

I want some Arabic coffee, circa now.

It's weird, 'cause I really dislike coffee: the smell, the taste. But, one of the families I stayed with offered me some, and when I tried it I was hooked. Only one cup a day, and I tend to make it pretty weak, but here are the measurements to get at the store: 140-150g coffee + 30g whole cardamom seeds ground together. Mix 1 heaping teaspoon in a cup with your preferred sweetener (if that's your thing), let it settle for a minute or two, and enjoy!
