Think we're back on track, at last.
File is here , wrapped up, per usual, in WinAce.

L: That's Dr. Hemnesphere's dad doing the handclaps on track #1.

Turns out this album was already in MCotP, and I hadn't noticed.
Much better than the last one. Still a little weak on the whole, to my ears. I think I'm all set with the "sun machine" refrain for the rest of my life. But I have always like the single quite a bit.

When it's good, it's great. Definitely could still use a little bit of editing. A solid effort. I know I'm a little late with comments on the S/T effot, but I'm impressed that he already had his "voice" in the first two records. And by voice I mean "style" not just "singing."

Er, what's MCotP?

Music Collection of the People.

Ya know, it has been a long while since I heard a whole record.
I'll give it a whirl.

Wait...that's not true.
We rocked "Wish You Were Here" on a drive back from NYC.
I think it played through a few times...I was in and out of consciousness,
Does that count?
Right...
I'm on a date with a Starman.

Dude is so...I don't know...
Foppish.

Is this already a musical?

What the fuck is coming down?
...a fucking sun machine?

How d'ya feel about the 43 seconds of Grateful Dead guitar action on (don't sit down)?
Posted by virtue on 2007-01-24 13:41:40 +0000
I think I might like the first one better. I thought it was more ambitious, and other than Space Oddity, more successful when it worked. This was mostly just kind of blah.

Im glad no one ever said that to Rashan Roland Kirk.

First one is Barry, second is Manilow.

The Sun machine stuff at the end sounds quite a bit like
"Satellite of Love" by Lou Reed.
Makes sense as Bowie sings on it and produced it.

So although the record on a whole seems a little forced it's pretty good for 1969.
But...I'm ready for "The Man Who Sold the World", if only to get closer to when Bowie hits his prime.

Perhaps the "prime" of Bowie comes a little later on. But with this album, originally titled "Man of Words, Man of Music", you have to appreciate his foresight (or at least the foresight of Bowie's record company at the time - which was not RCA.). Notice the title track has a richer sound and perhaps is a little more "professionally sounding"? The track was produced by Gus Dudgeon. Mr. Dudgeon produced Elton John through most of the 70's and some of the 80's. He also produced other Bowie songs in the years to follow.

Give the man a break. It was 1969 for goodness sake!

Yeah, Chopper!

L: I'm all set with the longer songs, but there's some good stuff on here. "Janine" sounds like Gary U.S. Bonds (or is it Gary Puckett and the Union Gap? The former, I think -- fucking Garys.)
