New vs. Used / Outback vs. Legacy
Like three (3) other board members, I'm about to purchase a vehicle. This one will be breaking two rules I have for buying cars that I've followed religious since Summer 1996: buy used, and buy older than myself.
Well, working vehicles pre-1974 are becoming harder to find. But, I still feel there are lots of reasons to purchased used vehicles: avoid the 15% depreciation that occurs when you drive off the lot, reduce environmental impact via reuse. But new cars are nice, I can get exactly what I want (exactly what I want is an Audi S4 wagon, but that's another story).
