How often should one clean a bathtub?
Posted by MF DU on 2007-02-11 17:45:41 +0000
I'm sensing this is a quarell in married life, Conor? :)
Posted by tendiamonds on 2007-02-11 18:25:30 +0000
Perhaps it depends on how hard your water is and whether you have a drip...
Posted by virtue on 2007-02-11 22:32:06 +0000
You can go a lot longer if no one actually takes baths. Or bathes at all.

I'm sensing MF DU may have had this discussion before? :)

CC, didn't you and la femme live in sin for multiple years before tying the knot? Why poll us now?

You're so right! Like the H3W!

Oh wait, I meant the toilet. Sorry, mates.
Posted by tgl on 2007-02-12 13:47:28 +0000
So, don't bathe in the toilet.

Huzb only started taking exception to my magical ability to not notice when things are dirty and need to be cleaned after we got hitched. Maybe it's a bait-n-switch technique? "Hey, I'm totally cool with you never cleaning" turns into "I've been waiting for a WEEK for you to notice that the bathroom is a pigsty, why haven't you cleaned it yet?"
We resolved this by dividing tasks into skill-based assignments. I am bad at everything related to cleaning, but I'm a pretty good cook, I like shopping, and I can handle a certain level of math. So I do all provision-gathering, household admin, and cooking (not including dishes). Huzb cleans up after me. So far it's worked out great - the house is always as clean as he wants it to be, and I don't get hassled to do stuff I never remember to do and am bad at anyway (side note: is it really possible to wash dishes "the wrong way"?)

Apparently? I guess I just don't do a good enough job (which is probably true.)
The Brits are the worst dish washers I've ever seen-- they don't rinse, just put the plates in the drying rack covered in suds.
Posted by tgl on 2007-02-12 14:40:30 +0000
YES!
Posted by G lib on 2007-02-12 14:42:44 +0000
Good point, TGL-- I'll have to try that.
Posted by tommy on 2007-02-12 14:49:28 +0000
Yes, it is possible to wash dishes the wrong way. For example, you could wash your dishes by hand before putting them in your dishwasher. That's just all kinds of crazy.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2007-02-12 14:56:11 +0000
Oh, yes - my Mum-in-law does that (shhhh). But Huzb is very thorough, and I have to admit that despite his nationality he is a very good dishwaher. Apparently my problem is using too much water, too much soap, and (unsurprisingly for me) making a mess. Is it really possible to make a mess while cleaning? Are a few splashes of water & suds on the floor a deal-breaker? Apparently so.

here here!

Of course it's possible to wash dishes the wrong way--e.g., leaving bits of food still attached to the plate.
It's also possible to load the dishrack the wrong (i.e., least efficient way), so you have to wash the dishes in the correct order in order to maximize the number of dishes that fit in the dishrack in such a fashion as to have all of the dishes dry. Right side up tupperware with a puddle is totally uncool. Not that I've ever been diagnosed with OCD or anything...

Where where?

A very perceptive man.

Speaking of cleaning dishes. When we moved into our house, our dishwasher was brown from the hardwater stains. I threw some Dishwasher Magic™ in last week and it turns out the inside is a beautiful bright white, not the off white we had assumed. Unfortunately, there was one part of the washer that was stuck behind the silverware basket, so I still have a brown spot. Based on some Googling™ I've run an empty load with the hopper full of Tang™. I'll report back on the results.

The toilet got its once-every-six-months cleaning last week!

Like this?
"WAIT!!! TAKE THAT BAG OUT! You have to flatten the paper bags for the recycling and then slide them into the recycling bag flat! NO CRUMPLING!"
Course, I do have a dishrack method that could rival yours.

Tang™ worked great. Since the hard water has already started to rear its ugly head, I will be running a Tang™ load once every week or so. I've also Googled™ and found that I can get giant tubs of knockoff brands at my Big Box Wholesaler, and they will work just as well.
Posted by tgl on 2007-04-01 12:36:25 +0000
Tang™ is now in place.
This being Stamski's Birthday, I'm wondering if this is just a ruse to get me to run Tang™ through my dishwasher... and it'll turn out orange not sparkly white.
Posted by tendiamonds on 2007-04-01 15:34:10 +0000
I'm due for another Tangâ„¢ run. Happy B-Day, Stammers, for all of us.
Posted by tgl on 2007-04-01 17:03:09 +0000
Tang™ is a hoax! Not only did it not turn my dishwasher orange, the plastic is still discolored. Damn Tang™!

D. Boon's birthday, too.

And my Dad's. Yesterday, I mean.
True story: he was technically stillborn, but the doctors got his heart going again. Hell of an April Fool's joke on Grandma.
Fortunately his sense of humor's gotten less... abrasive... since then.

Cleaned mine last night to take a bath. Very refreshing. Good thing I did, too...serious thunderstorms this morning made for no shower before work.
