Overheard @ The Slayer Show
In the Urinals-"Dude, You Like Def Leppard? You've been watching too much VH1!"
Tom Araya: Are You All Ready To Die?
The Crowd: (Some Garbled combination of: "Arrrgh, Yes, Fuck Yes, Kerrrrrrrrrrrrrrry KINNNNNNNG, Hail Satan!")
Other show observations:
Never been so far back at a show before and still been involved in crowd "activity": Mr. Mister and the DÜ were like almost near the sound board and pushing, shoving galore. Neither of us were complaining given the ambience, but I just wasnt ready for it. Also, I had never experienced a crowd hostile to folks moving away from the stage before. Pushing through folks to get up front always draws crowd ire in the rock environment, but people leaving to go out back? "Look, pal, you wanted to see Slayer up close, you've made your Den of Inequity, Now Lay In It!"
The Smoke Machine and the ultra power strobes were awesome. Also have no idea how Araya, King et. al can maintain their helicopter-like swivel headbanging movements throughout the overtly technical passages. (Althoug they do this for a living, so they have to have their techniques I spose)
Song Highlights Included:
-'Jihad' This Is God's War!
-'War Ensemble', 'Dead Skin Mask' and 'Seasons In The Abyss' off of Seasons In The Abyss(see the you tube vids for SITA and W.Ensemble posted in the 2/16/07 thread from a few days ago)
-'Angel Of Death' (super happy Slayer ignored the crowds request for an encore after Angel of Death - where can you go after that monolith? I don't want to know - its just unfathomable)
Overall, a wonderful alternative to being stuck in a cubicle all week listening to people yelling at me for their inability to maintian their own computer browsing settings.
Vandermark 5 and Slayer in one week - phew. I'm gonna need a lot of rest this weekend if I am going to recover in time to take Maddie Nigs to Hi 5 on Monday in Hartford...
Jon Spencer's second choice for a band name.

I am listening to Reign in Blood now.
I feel shame.
From what I've read all the tracks on SOH are all significantly slower and dirge / Sabbath like as opposed to the thrash of Reign In Blood.
I have Slayer in my life. (At least in the headphones after Maddie has gone to bed)
In search of a well-stocked metal used cd/lp boutique,
MF Muthafukin DÜ
The DÜ part of it is yet another of my annoying attempts to find something similar to my last name (La)dew (re: Ladewtangclan, Mountain Dew, etc...)
So to answer your question, hell no, it's not redundant.
Good review.
My favorite phrase in the piece was "completely unreasonable music" - a new mantra for me.
Damian, Mahatma Chani, Mr. Mr, G lib - anyone in?
Looks like Marilyn Manson is opening? Hmmmm...
Slightly off topic: if you were running a company that specializes in testing of embedded sofware... would your website be www.slayer.com?
