I like that there doing new things instead of just jerking their collective chops.
But...They're called notes, in western music there are twelve, you can use more than one or two per what you think is a song.
Tyondai Braxton is pretty cool.

I just read the page blurb -- can't believe that The Knife is already a touchstone for music reviews. That shit is just lazy.

One: they're on the same label as the Knife. Two: it's better than comparing them to, say, Times New Viking.

What does the Knife sound like? Is it lazy because they are not explaining sonic characteristics to a reader who may have no point of reference?
Just curious...

The Knife is kinda gothic trance keyboardy-y stuff. If you can imagine mid-period Bailter Space mixed with a hint of Chappaquidick Skyline, I think you'd get the idea.

I thought after the year 1995/1996 I would never hear anyone say 'Bailter Space' again.

If it becomes common for reviewers to use current records as compare/contrast points EVEN THOUGH EVERY ALBUM THAT HAS EVER BEEN RECORDED IS AVAILABLE ONLINE then I'll see you in the bunker.

Thursday April 5th 2007
Great Scott Allston Ma.
12" containing the song streaming on Pitchfork right now out in April. Full length out in May...
You're welcome.
That's nuts. It'll be a great show. I know it's kinda dorky to wear the t-shirt of the band you are witnessing, how dorky is it to bring the record satchel?

Mirroredcame in the mail last night.
Fave track right now (09, BTW) is 'Snare Hangar'.
Wow - this stuff is SUPER GOOD, precise, and fuckin weird.
'
What a combo.
You're Welcome.
Just ordered Mirrors from insound.com
The Atlas 12" is backordered.
Posted by MF DU on 2007-05-23 16:51:47 +0000
How do you like Insound™? I have ordered from them once or twice, but have found that they come in slower than, say, a newburycomics.com or a dtmgallery.com.
Corwood Industries has the fastest mailorder turnaround, but that means fuck all unless you want a whole shitload of Jandek cds in yr collection.
I'd prefer they hold my orders until they can complete the whole thing, mostly so that I won't get charged for postage twice. I think I'm _still_ waiting for a Bill Laswell Axiom release.
Did I get the Burma subscription through them?
Free w/ Order: Let's Get Digital
Oh yeah. Those American Apparel ads are probably in violation of company policy.

I didn't know that gum chewing formerly fat guitarist was in BTTLES until I just watched a second of the video.
NOW I understand why you all are creaming yourselves over this band.
Can't tell who is chewing gum.
On that relationship chart: It's cool that The Middle East is one of the links (pun intended).
Posted by MF DU on 2007-05-23 17:35:57 +0000
which Laswell Axiom?
Posted by G lib on 2007-05-23 17:37:25 +0000
Sorry-- I meant "Gum chewing formerly fat DON CAB guitarist".
TGL-- Weren't you at that show downstairs a few years ago when he blew gum bubbles the entire length of the show?
I really don't remember, I think I canceled the order, actually. Could have been an Axium Funk release: http://www.discogs.com/release/875841
BTW, I've been listening to Temporary Music lately. Might prefer it to the Material album with the William S. Burroughs track. Here's a re-issue. Mine's on vinyl, natch.

Burma was through Insound.

Material is good stuff. I have a 'Hallucination Engine' disc that also has some Burroughs stuff.
I actually have the double disc of Axiom funk you linked to as well. If Im not mistaken ,its pretty well out of print. If yr interested Id be happy to send you a CDR - lemme know
Yeah, Hallucination Engine was my first introduction to Material. There's a twenty year gap between that and Temporary Music, it shows, too. I think I prefer the earlier work.
Ill have to check out the earlier stuff.
As far as Laswell was concerned, my biggest interests were the Last Exit Band (Peter Brotzmann / Bill Laswell / Sonny Sharrock / Ronald Shannon Jackson) and the Painkiller band (J Zorn / B Laswell / Mick Harris of Napalm Death)
I also like the Celluloid stuff of the mid 80's - Golden Palominos et. al - I think Hip Hop / Funk 'Rockit' Herbie Hancock era on Angel Dust.
Ever hear the celluloid 12" single'Time Zone' Band/ Project Laswell did with Afrika Bambatta and John Lydon? (I always thought 'World Destruction' would be a great cover for C4RT)
At any rate, Bill Laswell is a criminally underappreciated talent.
Laswell immersion, anyone?
Yes, but not The Wife.
On first listen: Race (both tracks), TIJ, Atlas and Ddiamondd are standouts. Don't care much for the remix on the B side of the single. And yes, I did start the single off at 33 1/3.
