The theory is that NYC is the epicenter of fashion. People who are interested in fashion tend to look good. If you are interested in fashion you move to NYC.
This does not explain my $7 green short sleeve shirt from the discount store (now closed) behind the inbound bus station in Central Square, and how hot I look in it.
