A moment of silence, please
To commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the slaying of Christopher Wallace.

Wow. A good friend of mine took her own life a few weeks before Biggie died. I don't remember the exact date, but I do remember that as a result of temporal proximity "I'll Be Missing You" did and still does make me cry like a baby.

P Diddy - The worst dancer ever.

"Hey guys, I have an idea for a song. I'm going to drop the lyrics out of a Police tune and feebly rap over it."

I don't want to cause a lot of trouble today (I have work to do), but it's ORNETTE COLEMAN'S BIRTHDAY!!! Biggie had a few good raps, but not qualified to wipe the brow of one of the great American musical innovators of the 20th century.

While not ever a big P Diddy fan myself, seems like piss instead of milk made its way into someone's Friday bowl of Cheerios.
WuTang, Beastie Boys, De La Soul, Public Enemy, GangStarr to name a small few may have shown extreme talent in their breadth of record knowledge, sizable collections and ability to create sonic collage, but all of them have also used huge noticeable chunks of other people's works. (Even until this day Matt Dike, The Dust Brothers, Mario C., Yauch, Diamond and Horovitz are sheepish when people ask about source material for Paul's Boutique - lotsa stuff cleared, but lots of stuff didn't and mentioning sources publicly in an interview or something could land the Beasties into another lawsuit a' la "Flute Loop")
In P Diddy's defense - at least he did it in the age of sample clearance where Sting received credit and $$$ for his work.
What is more yucky: the lack of creativity of P Diddy's "song" foundation or Sting's acceptance of the deal?
Also: I have no idea about P Diddy's artistic intentions, but while using something that blatant has an "oh, brother" type of effect on those ears weaned on '80's rock radio, it could lead a
younger listener in the 00+ range of things to new music he/she didn't know existed before.
